SF Day 2
Not quite as many people in the city as on the 4th. We took a double decker bus tour of the city and another bus tour out to the Golden Gate Bridge and Sausilito! Wish we'd had time to get off in Sausilito, but had to get back for our trip to Alcatraz!
San Francisco
What an adventure we had in SF with the millions of other tourists on the 4th of July! Lots of activity on the Embarcadero and shopping if you could make your ways through the crowds! Sunny weather but cold winds made everyone squeeze in to the shop to buy a sweatshirt! Couldn't see the tops of the fireworks as the fog had set it, so headed back to our camp at Candlestick RV Park and found a 180 degree fireworks show from communities across the water that lasted until after 11 pm.
Our camp was really more like a parking lot but had full hookups. It looked like an RV sale lot, with soooo many rented rv's and hardly anyone speaking English!

Monterey
What a great sunny day in Monterey and then Carmel-by-the-Sea! The weather was perfect for us NWsterners with 70 degrees and sunny! We walked to Cannery Row and Tom waited out on the sidewalk as we shopped in all the touristy spots! We had some great seafood for lunch and walked the trail to Fishermans' Wharf. The harbor seals were out in force along the beach and we enjoyed seeing a baby nursing, teens frolicking and the big daddies barking it up to their families on the beach! If you want free food, this is the place to come with free samples of clam chowder outside at every restaurant!!!!

Napa Valley Touring
Today we drove the Napa Valley from north of Calistoga to southwest of Napa. We saw a couple of cool castle wineries. One of them was the subject of the movie Bottle Shock, then a chardonnay from this winery won the Paris tasting and put California on the world wine map! We went to one winery and toured the caves underground. We found wineries with dogs, cats, and even chickens! Tomorrow we are off to Monterey and Santa Cruz!
